UV Lights & COVID-19

Ultraviolet lamps have been used for years to clean and sanitize. They have been utilized heavily in hospital rooms.

Basically, UV-C rays are emitted from vaporized mercury, making them germ-fighting. What makes them blue is the light that comes from the argon plasma in the tube.

However, the germ-fighting effectiveness decreases over time but not the blue color. Because of this, do not be misled by the blue color and assume everything is fine.

When using UV disinfection systems, it is safer and more effective to have a lamp monitoring system or a maintenance plan for lamp replacement every year.
